A Quick Project to Start of the Year and Christen my New Workshop......

For a while now I have been thinking about doing a pretty project. I had been thinking cupcakes and Cath Kidston inspired and I have been gradually collecting bits and pieces. I am a huge fan of the work of Lory Tonetti and Paris Miniatures and have collected a few of their pieces for various projects and really wanted to showcase some of their romantic cakes.
Then I came across the work of another food artist Mi Mundo en Rosa and by sheer coincidence she attended the Kensington Fair  displaying this cute little shop box.
Guess what I have sitting unloved in a cupboard........
.......I bought this quite a long time ago on Ebay for about £15.00 I think. I am not sure but I believe DHE produced these little wall boxes.
This seemed like the perfect in and out project to kick off the New Year and get me back into the swing of things again.
I spoke to the lovely lady behind the stand at KDF and told her I had the same little wall box and was inspired by her work and intended to turn my own neglected wall shop into a romantically pink shop like her own.
I bought quite a few of her pieces but as my Italian is non-existant and her English was only slightly better I am not sure she understood that her little box had given me the kick start I needed.
I already had some baking books ready, not the ghoulish ones of course, from Baking in Miniature. This Etsy shop has a really cute selection of items for kitchens and bakery shops.
So today I finally sat down in my workshop for the first time and played with my toys for the first time. My new resolution though is to be more organised with what I buy so these are the cakes and bits and pieces I have for this project.
They are all pieces by Paris Miniatures, Lory and of course Mi Mundo en Rosa whose project inspired me. How pretty are these little cakes all in a row!!
I have also got two kits: a butler's tray by Jane Harrop and a cake stand by McQueenie's Miniatures. Both of which need to be painted and assembled and filled with all things delicious!
Today I have sanded down everything that needed it, applied all the necessary undercoats and searched through my paper stash for wall paper. Not sure I have the right paper as I don't want it to be too busy behind all the beautiful cakes.
I have also tried to keep to my second resolution.....don't try and rush everything, take your time and let the project grow on its own.
Tomorrow will be more painting and a decision on the wallpaper. I also want to add a couple of jars of meringues and sweeties with items I already have at hand, remembering that this is supposed to be a quick showcasing project inspired by artists I admire.

    1. Great little box for a short and sweet project that you can use up some odds and ends and come out with something pretty decent in a short time. I am on the hunt for some of the other styles now!

    1. It won't evolve into much Giac, it really is an 'in and out' project just because I have a yen to do something pretty for a change! Plus it is a way of using up some of the leftovers I have waded through recently!

  5. I love the idea of these room boxes that are space savers. I could do with one to showcase the mini shoes I've bought. Hmm, I may have to borrow your bright idea =0)

  6. These little boxes are great. Shallow enough to hang on a wall if you want to. I have only ever seen them on Ebay. Perfect for a little shoe display or to simply show case an artisan you have collected.

  11. It is a really compact little piece and can be easily fitted anywhere in the house. I love to collect lots of things and a small shop like this makes it possible without breaking the bank.
