California Here I Come........

In a couple of weeks I will be travelling from wet and windy England to the sun of California.
I will be staying in Palm Springs and visiting the surrounding areas plus San Diego, Sedona and Las Vegas.
Sooooo, where are the best places a craft hoarder and miniature collector should shop? I know there are lots of hobby and craft shops and I have a very patient husband.
All suggestions will be very gratefully received.

  1. We don't have very many miniature shops here in so cal. The only one I am aware of is in Ventura Ca - about 2 hours from Palm Springs. Sometimes thrift shops/ goodwill has items and with your mini eye I am sure you will see things you will use. I go to Micheals and Joanns for some things and the dollar store. Sorry I do not have more information.(I live about an hour and a half from PS) I hope you enjoy your trip here (it is hot today who knows about tomorrow lol)

  2. Thank you that is really helpful. I read so much about US thrift stores and the dollar stores that shopping will be a real adventure this time around. I wasn't collecting the last time I visited the US so these are all new stores for me. My last visits revolved around Disney.

  3. Sorry, Janice, I am on the East Coast.... so California is like a Foreign Country to me! LOL! I am sure you will have fun shopping... make sure you bring your smartphone so you can look up all the local businesses wherever you are!

    1. I definitely will. I guess I am hoping for that fabulously hidden Mom & Pop dolls house shop gem. If any of them are left!!

    2. Horrible feeling you've been and come back by the time I found this, also I am geographically challenged so no idea if my dolls house related trip down that coast would help - but maybe for someone else. We had a great few days - lovely place and wonderful mini experiences: https://www.blogger.com/blogger.g?blogID=6508072403097048#editor/target=post;postID=8876641655830932046;onPublishedMenu=posts;onClosedMenu=posts;postNum=19;src=postname

  4. If you are able to travel as far north as Carmel, there is a relatively famous dollhouse shop there that sells incredible antique houses as well as other things. Apparently, this is where Barbara Streisand is selling her dollhouses. People who have visited there have reported it is worth it just to browse. I have never been so my knowledge is entirely second hand. Here is its website: http://www.carmeldollshop.com

  5. Good luck on your adventure after posting to you I went to goodwill and found 2 boxes that will be great dioramas and a silver thing that when I saw it it reminded me of a fountain (I am working on a green house) While you are here in my home state if you can go to a swap meet they might have stuff also, I haven't been in a while so I am unsure. But a I said before check out the dollar stores and big lots and goodwill Happy hunting Can't wait to see what you get !!:)
